Nestled between the Breede Valley and the Klein Karoo lies the valley of wine and roses, better known as the Robertson region.
Its location offers a variety of terroirs. Some areas are very rocky, consisting of about 70% quartz rock, while other areas are rich in lime. You’ll also find shale and clay banks, along with sandy alluvial soil near the banks of the Breede River.
Situated in the valley of the Breede River and surrounded by mountains, the Robertson Wine Valley experiences very cold winters and vibrantly hot summers. Generous sunshine in both seasons greatly enhances fruit quality. The significant difference in temperature between night and day is also extremely beneficial for enhancing the colour and structure of red wines, and it greatly enriches the aromatic components of white wines.
This diversity of soil and microclimates allows a wide range of grape varietals to thrive, thus allowing a plethora of excellent wines to stem from this region.
